History of Coca Cola

Rated: 5 Star

In 1886, Dr. John Pemberton, a Pharmacist in Atlanta, experimented with a new recipe. He boiled his ingredients into syrup which he thought was very tasty, he took the mixture to Jacob’s Pharmacy where the syrup was mixed with carbonated water. It was put on sale for 5cents per glass.

The drink was called Coca-Cola and about 9 glasses of Coca Cola was sold per day in the first year.
In 1888 Dr. Pemberton sold the recipe to Asa Griggs Candler who formed a company to produce and distribute Coca-Cola.
Marketing techniques, like painting their barrels red, were one of many that gave Coca-Cola a unique appearance.
At this stage Coca-Cola was only served in glasses out of soda fountains but was now widely available all over America.

Coca-Cola was sold in bottles for the first time on March 12, 1894. Competitors tried to impose on the success and sold their own recipes as Coca Cola. Coca Cola decided to create the Contour bottle to combat impersonators and ensure clients can identify the real Coca Cola.

The first bottling of Coca-Cola occurred in Vicksburg, Mississippi, at the Biedenharn Candy Company in 1891.
