The first written description of a soccer match played in England was seen in 1170. Edward II stated concern in 1314 about the impact that soccer was having on the skills of his archers as he attempted to raise an army to fight the Scots.

By 1531 Puritan preacher Thomas Eliot stated that soccer caused “beastly fury and extreme violence”
The first documented evidence of soccer being played in the Public school system in England, at Eton dated back to 1747.
The first meeting to lay down rules for the game was held at Cambridge University in 1848 dubbing the “Cambridge Rules” rules.
In 1862 the “Cambridge Rules” were updated, limiting teams to only 11 players a side.

The football association was formed in 1863, and introduced the very first Football association cup (The FA cup) in 1871. 12 Clubs contested for the FA Cup in 1872.
The popularity of the game grew and the game was taken abroad.
In1904 FIFA was formed in Paris and had agreed to adhere to the rules of the Football Association.

The first European Soccer Championship was held in 1960. The Soviet Union defeated Yugoslavia 2-1 in the final.
Brazil became the very first to win the World Cup three times with a 4-1 defeat in 1970.

In 1982 Antonio Cabrini becomes the first player to miss a penalty in the World Cup final, but his Italy team still triumph 3-1 over West Germany in the final played in Madrid, Spain.
The first World Cup Final to be decided on penalties results in victory for Brazil after Roberto Baggio missed the crucial final kick in the World Cup Final, held the year 1994 in the United States.
The first Soccer world cup to be split and hosted by two nations in 2002, was held by Japan and South Korea, which Brazil won, defeating Germany 2-0.

The 2010 World Cup was first World Cup to be played on African soil. The cup began in Johannesburg, South Africa on 11 June at 4pm with the match between the host and Mexico.
